Not a lot to report on for November, it has been a relatively slow month (although the month is not over yet – should I have said that?)
This month held Kane’s 4th birthday, Jeff’s 32nd birthday, and Dads 73rd birthday! We also welcomed a new dog (very early stages, will post once things feel more settled).
I’m not anywhere close to being in the Christmas spirit yet – maybe because I’m anxious about receiving the presents I have ordered in the mail. Canada Post is on strike and there’s no signs of a compromise there yet.
My Christmas list is quite small this year, and I purchased Moms & Dads and gave it to them early… siding for their house, to finish off a project dad started this fall. Unconventional for Christmas, but maybe it’s time we get away from the commercialism of Christmas and just start giving people things that they need (maybe just ask them?) Maybe that small contribution will give them financial relief to do things with their budget that they want to.
Christmas, after all, should be about slowing down and relaxing with friends, family, and delicious food. Not worrying about giving people the perfect gift – the gift is your time.
Til next time,
M.
P.S. If you are gift giving this year and struggling with post office issues like I am, you can always shop local. Here’s a few of my personal favorite spots in Goose Bay:
- Yellow Heart Co
Gorgeous smelling candles from the loveliest human! - Spruced Up Labrador
Oodles of lovely bath products from scratch. - Minipi Outfitters
Super good quality clothing, footwear, and my personal favorite: YETI Ramblers and Goodr glasses! - Mo’s Cafe
Them cinnamon rolls though *drool* - Otter Creek Coffee Co.
Literally any bag of their coffee will give you the warm and fuzzies you need this winter. - Thrifty’s
Yes – this is a second hand shop, but you know what, screw people who turn up their noses at a well thought out gift. Maybe that coat with the tags still on it that you got for $7 just needs a quick refresh, and is JUST the thing that someone needs. - The White Rabbit
The BEST brownies I’ve ever had. Try the mint chocolate. - Terrington COOP
You honestly cannot go wrong with a gift card for groceries! Everyone needs groceries b’ys. - Birdhouse Garden Market
Also a bit unconventional – but I can think of several friends who absolutely LOVE houseplants, and they’re not cheap to buy. A gift card for a greenhouse means your loved one gets to enjoy that gift for a very long time (plants live forever if you treat ’em right).
